What’s an “Argo”? A Law Firm to Help You Navigate Your Legal Issues

Law firms need a name. Usually for a solo practitioner it can just be named after yourself. Unfortunately, “Vela Law” doesn’t exactly sound great. La and Vela and Law together just sounds odd when said out loud.

That’s where the name Argo Law comes in.

Argo Navis By Johannes Hevelius – Atlas Coelestis. Johannes Hevelius drew the constellation in Firmamentum Sobiescianum, sive Uranographia, his celestial catalogue in 1690., Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=238268

The constellation Argo Navis gets its name from the ship Argo from Greek mythology, which was used by Jason and the Argonauts on their journey to Colchis in search of the Golden Fleece. The constellation was originally three smaller constellations: Carina, the keel; Puppis, the poop deck; and Vela, the sails.

Sails were essential to navigating the sea. They allow a ship not only to move forward, but to be able to adjust to changing winds. The constellation Vela is this part of the Argo Navis, it was the part of the ship that allowed Jason and the Argonauts to navigate the seas on their journey.
